Rhea nests

Image ID:

Male rheas are entirely responsible for incubating and hatching the eggs. They will fiercely guard their nests, even hissing at approaching females wanting to lay additional eggs in the nest. The male digs the nest with his three toes, until it is approximately three feet wide and 18 inches deep. He then lines it with leaves and dead grass.
