Feeding the calves
In group housing, the manger at the front of the pen is used to feed calves. There is ample room for each calf to come to the manger, individually, or all at once. There are two types of veal in Ontario: Milk-fed and Grain-fed. In Ontario, 70% of veal is grain-fed, which means that they receive a completely nutritionally balanced diet of corn (grain) and protein supplement once they have been weaned off of milk (at about 8 weeks of age).
