Image# V040 - Calf Hutch
The hutch is used as a type of incubator, which prevents the spread of disease and allows the farmer to better monitor the calves. Hutches are used for both dairy heifers (female dairy calves) and veal animals (male dairy cattle). Farmers take good care of their calves, ensuring that they have comfortable housing, lots of fresh air and lighting, food and water. This calf has a National ID tag (white) and a Quality Assurance tag (pink) for record keeping purposes. These tags allow the farmer to know everything about the calf from the time of its birth until it goes to market.
