Image# V036 - Individual Stalls
The three types of housing for veal calves include group housing, hutches, and the individual stalls, featured in this picture. The individual stall allows the calf to have more social interaction with other animals than the hutch, while still allowing the farmer to monitor each animal individually for feed and water intake, and health status. In each type of housing the animal has sufficient room to stand up, lie down, turn around and perform normal calf behaviours. Calves will spend approximately 70% of their time lying down when in a comfortable environment, as can be seen in this picture.
